How to Prepare for Your Consultation
A little preparation can go a long way in making your meeting productive. Here are a few things you can do before your scheduled consultation:
Complete Your Intake Paperwork: This form is sent to you by email. Please fill it out as thoroughly as possible and return it before your appointment.
Send Any Important Documents: If you have paperwork related to your case—like prior court orders, filings, or communications from the other party—email them to us ahead of time.
Write Down Your Questions or Concerns: Having a list helps make sure we cover everything that’s on your mind.
What to Expect During the Meeting
During your consultation, the attorney will:
Gather the necessary information to assess your case
Walk you through the legal process and what to expect
Discuss your options, including cost and strategy
Take notes on your case, the advice given, and the next steps
It’s our goal to provide you with a clear, personalized plan so you leave the consultation feeling more confident and informed.
A Few More Tips for Your First Meeting
Be Honest and Transparent: Family law cases can be deeply personal. Everything you share is confidential—and the more open you are, the better we can help you.
Know That Emotions Are Normal: Whether you're facing divorce, custody concerns, or another sensitive issue, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. We’re here to support you, not judge you.
Understand That Legal Advice Is Tailored to You: Every case is different. What worked for someone else may not apply to your situation, and that’s okay. We’ll explain what your options are based on your specific goals.
Ask Questions About the Timeline and Process: Don’t hesitate to ask what to expect next. We’ll always aim to be clear, honest, and accessible so that you know exactly where things stand.
You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out: You’re not expected to have every answer or detail ready before you come in. We’ll help you sort through the issues and build a plan together.
A Note About Privacy
To protect your confidentiality, we ask that no one else be present during the consultation unless absolutely necessary. If someone will be joining you, please let our office know in advance.
Ready to Move Forward?
If you’re ready to take the next step, let us know. We’ll send you:
An electronic payment request for your retainer (eCheck is preferred, but all forms of payment are accepted)
A retainer agreement to sign electronically
Our welcome packet, including office policies and next steps
We’re honored to support you during this important time, and we look forward to working with you.
